WebEx

Datatel uses the online meeting tool Cisco WebEx to conduct virtual classes.  WebEx combines real-time desktop sharing with phone conferencing.  Below is all the information you will need to test and use this tool.

Test a Connection to WebEx

If you have never used WebEx, we encourage you to test a connection to the tool with the PC you will use during your online meeting.  To test your browser, join this test meeting

If you are not able to run a successful test, read more about system requirements to successfully use WebEx.  If you need additional assistance, please contact elearning_support@datatel.com.

Connect to a WebEx Meeting

Once you have successfully tested a connection to WebEx, you are now ready to connect to the online meeting on the first day your virtual class or webinar begins.  Two to three business days before your virtual class or webinar, you will receive an email with a direct url to your online meeting.  Follow the steps below to access your meeting:

  • Click the meeting url to launch WebEx.
  • In the “Join Session Now” area (example below), enter three pieces of information:

    • "Your name” – Enter your First and Last names here.
    • “Email address” – Enter your work email address.
    • “Session password” – Enter the password provided in the email sent to you.
  • Click “Join Now”.

  • Once in the online meeting, an "Audio Conference" dialog box will open so you may connect to the teleconference.
  • In the “Use Phone” area, you have two options to join the teleconference portion of the online meeting.  Examples of each are shown below.
    • Option 1: "“Call me at a new number”By selecting this option, the “Enter a phone number” field opens. Type in your phone number (no punctuation is needed) and click the “Call Me” button. WebEx will call that phone. Follow the audio prompts to be placed in the teleconference.  When asked for your name, respond with your First and Last Names and your Organization. Example: “Ann Jones with ABC University.” Once you have been placed in the call, you may close the "Audio Conference" dialog box.

    • Option 2: “I will call in” - By selecting this option, the number to dial in manually is displayed. Keep the dialog box open when dialing in so you have the access code and attendee ID handy. Follow the prompts to enter this information and be placed in the teleconference. When asked for your name, respond with your First and Last Names and your Organization. Example: “Ann Jones with ABC University.” Once you have been placed in the call, you may close the "Audio Conference" dialog box.

Tip: Once you are in the online meeting, if you need to reopen the "Audio Conference" dialog box for any reason, simply click the "Audio" button located directly below the Participant list.
